RENE LUMAWAG: Be a hero

RAUL GONZALES ON A RAMPAGE !

MYVIEWS by ROGER M. BALANZA

On radio this morning, I heard Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales in a fit of senile attack, lashing anew at members of the press. I could not grasp the reason for this new round of media-bashing by this GMA factotum, but he was specific about press photographers barging into his office without permission.

Gonzales was running amuck: he said any photojournalist who would dare to step into his office WOULD BE THROWN OUT!

This latest outburst comes on the heels of another wild rantings of the secretary: Last week, he said journalists covering situations like the Manila Pen mis-adventure of Senator Trillanes and company last month, should be shot if they do not heed government warning to stay out of a potential seige by troopers on a few military adventurists.

What to do with this Gonzales?

Two things.

One, encourage him with his rantings and medi-bashing to further alienate members of the press from this SOB government.

Two, let us find a hero like Ninoy Aquino of this gibberish rantings by this Gonzles.

I tried to analyze what Gonzales meant by THROWN OUT! In my book, I think he was meaning physical: he would or would have his guards THROW OUT an intruding photog from the window of his office at the Justice building.

The revolution that ousted President Marcos was sparked by the tarmac slaying of Senator Ninoy Aquino. He was a hero.

At this time of political crisis and massive discontentment at the GMA government, we need a hero and it could be Gonzales who could provide us that one hero that could lead to the toppling of her government.

That hero could be the photojournalist who would take Gonzales’ dare, barge into the secretary’s office, and get thrown out of the Justice Building and die for the sake of this forsaken nation.

I am pretty sure this brutal assault on the media could trigger the same massive protest as the killing of Ninoy.

I suggest Davao City’s famous photojournalist, Rene Lumawag, play this role that comes with the chance of being hailed as a hero like Ninoy.

After all, Rene Lumawag has an axe to grind against this government. The killing of his son, photog Gene Boyd Lumawag, shot dead in 2003 in Jolo while taking shots of the sunset, is on the way to the archives of unsolved media killings under this administration.

DON’T MISS THIS CHANCE, TATAY RENE! GO SEE GONZALES AND BE A HERO!
