Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario has proposed the transfer of the Davao International Airport to the Island Garden City of Samal.
Speaking with Malacanang tourism infrastructure consultant Ludwig Rieder and Department of Tourism regional director Art Boncato in Tagum City last week, del Rosario also proposed building o a bridge spanning Davao City and Samal Island.
He told the officials that the transfer of the airport would make the proposed multi-billion Davao City-Samal Bridge a reality, since “no one in his right senses will put up a bridge in Igacos when there is nothing happening there.”
Del Rosario said the construction of the bridge will be easier by
making it a component of the mega airport project in Samal. He cited the experience of the City of Mactan, which economy boomed with the establishment of the Mactan International Airport and the consequent building of its bridge component.
