Tagum Mayor Uy to RDR camp: “I am not a snake in the grass”

TAGUM CITY – Mayor Rey Uy is aggrieved that the camp of Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario is seeing politics in his city’s massive distribution of free armchairs and desks to public schools.
There is no politics here, said Uy, saying the donations are part of the City of Tagum’s corporate social responsibility.
Uy also dismissed speculations he is gunning for the gubernatorial seat in 2013 against the last-termer del Rosario.
Uy did not name names, but scored the ‘muckrakers’ behind the propaganda assailing his free chairs projects as a ploy to gain votes in the race for governorship in 2013.
These are people who have nothing to do but destroy others, he said.
He has an advice to the camp of del Rosario: Do not criticize. Complement my project for the sake of education of the children.
The free chair program of Uy has benefitted schools not only in Davao del Norte but also in Compostela Valley and Davao City.
The chairs were manufactured under an agreement with the Department of Education and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources from confiscated illegal logs.
Uy said he is not running against del Rosario if the governor seeks reelection.
I respect our friendship and the political ties we have for years, he said to shoot down a scenario of an Uy-del Rosario battle for governor in 2013.
I am not a snake in the grass, he said. ROGER M. BALANZA
