THE SPORTING WORLD: RODRIGO DUTERTE-PHOENIX BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Go tows VMO to Founders Cup finals

Vice Mayor’s Office defeated City Treasurer’s Office, 78 – 71, in their semifinal clash on Friday night to advance to the Founders Cup (Corporate Division) finals at the Davao City Recreation Center Almendras Gym.

VMO came out strong early behind hot-shot Christopher “Bong” Go and played with great composure down the stretch to seal the victory and clinch the first finals ticket.

Go, who converted five triples, scored 27 points with seventeen in the pivotal first half as VMO took a commanding 20 points lead, 46-26, at the half.

CTO bounced back in the second chapter of the match, outscoring VMO in the third canto, 24-12, to cut the deficit to 8, 50-58 going to the final period.

But both teams engaged in trading baskets in the pay off period at the drawback of the CTO squad which was bitten early in the match for failing to defend the perimeter.

Go took charge for VMO but he drew plenty of support from Roy Bangkas, Dindo Pastor, Greggy Delica and Art Atablanco in a great display of teamwork in crucial games.

Bangkas and Pastor scored 10 points each while Delica and Atablanco helped in the defensive end, putting more pressure to their counterparts.

Costan paced CTO with 17 points.
