Davao City’s 182 barangay captains are now in the front-line of the campaign against crime with offers of incentive of P1,000 for information on criminals and their activities.
Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has directed all 182 village chiefs and police officers to intensify security measures following the rise in crime incidents.
The barangay captains are led by his son, Association of Barangay Captains president Councilor Paolo Duterte.
Duterte said he is offering P1,000 reward to anybody who can provide information about theft, robbery, burglary, holdup, stabbing incidents and illegal drugs suspects.
Duterte also directed all police station commanders of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to roam the streets and lead their men in securing the populace.
Duterte gave out the marching orders to the barangay captains during a recent meeting attended by DCPO chief Ronald dela Rosa and the station heads.
During the meeting, Duterte ordered the village leaders to provide profiles of criminals in their respective barangays.
We will establish a database about the criminals. Who are they, where they live, how many times they were arrested and the cases they were involved in, he said.
The vice mayor said he will request Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, his daughter, to allocate enough budget for the barangay-level anti-crime campaign.
The vice mayor assured the barangay captains and police officers he will shield them if they will be sued before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) for strictly implementing security measures.
“Don’t worry, I will not let the CHR file charges against you,” he said.
