The Vice Mayor’s Office walloped Playsite, 100-75, to clinch its second win as Goldstar Hardware drubbed GSIS, 113-73, in the ongoing DBL-Phoenix Petroleum 36-Up Invitational Basketball Tournament Saturday at the Davao City Recreation Center Almendras Gym, February 19.
Christopher “Bong” Go fired 30 points as VMO bucked an awful start to clinch its second win in three outings.
Downed by as much as 14 points midway of the first canto, the City Council-based dribblers regrouped in the next frame and closed out the period with a 16-2 run to take a 47-40 lead at the half.
VMO continued to sizzle and pound Playsite in the third period as Go, Jason Tan, Dindo Pastor, Rhoel Josol and Carlos Salinas converted shots from all angles one after the other.
A Bong Go baseline triple at the close of the third canto gave VMO, 73 – 55, lead that kept Playsite at bay.
Tan scored 17 points while Josol had 16 markers for VMO which bounce back from a heartbreaking loss in their last assignment against league leader Top Agro.
Playsite opened the game sharply behind the superb shooting of Yoying Yu but went out of pace as VMO tightened up their defense that resulted to some easy shots.
Yu made six three pointers and finished the game with 18 points for Playsite which absorbed its fourth setback in five games in the tournament presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. and organized by the Vice Mayor’s Office through the initiatives of Christopher “Bong” Go.
Goldstar leaned on its height advantage in a blowout win against GSIS squad for its fourth win in five games.
The big Goldstar win left GSIS as the only win-less team at the homestretch of the preliminary round of the tournament sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao Region.
