No Senate bid for Rody

Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has shot down suggestions he run for a Senate seat or the vice presidency in 2013, saying in jest he plans to run as barangay captain in one of the barangays in the city in the next barangay elections.
I cannot dream of what I cannot be, said Duterte at the Ato ni Bay television program on SkyCable.
Duterte also placed in limbo speculations he would return to City Hall, saying Mayor Sara Duterte’s plan to retire from politics is tentative.
The mayor, his daughter, married to lawyer Mans Carpio, earlier said she would retire after her term ends next year to focus on her family and to have a baby.
But Duterte said the mayor’s decision was not final and inspired by natural feminine desire to procreate. The Carpio couple is childless after a four-year union.
I am not interested, said Duterte when asked in the program about running for a national elective position next year.
Duterte said his popularity is not assurance for a win and may not be a nationwide phenomenon, saying only Dabawenyos think he had the name to make it to a national position in an election.
He also said he has no money to fund a campaign but even if he had, he asked: Why should a spend I run for senator?
Duterte had also junked offers of a Cabinet seat by previous administrations.
Tell the barangay captain of Talomo that I will be running against him, said Duterte in jest. Artemio Jiminez is the barangay captain of Talomo, one of the biggest barangays in the city.
